Please note that although a file may be reported as “not a required ROM for this driver”, you are discouraged from removing these files from your romset. Often these files contain information essential to PCB owners trying to repair their board, since they may contain part numbers and location information. Additionally, sometimes ROMs are not yet required because the emulation is incomplete, but may later be required. Color PROMs, sound ROMs, etc. may fall into this category.
UNDERSTANDING THIS REPORT:
You'll need to be familiar with the concept of “rom merging” in order to fully understand this report. This refers to the MESS feature which allows you to store “clone” ROMs in either the clone set, the clone's parent set, or both.
Often clones have some ROMs in common with the parent set (i.e., both the parent and the clone require the same ROM.) If a rom located in a clone set is a common ROM, the symbol [*] will be used to indicate it. Clone roms not required by the parent set will use the symbol [ ] instead.
The CRC-32 for files is shown only for romsets in zipfile format. MESS can find these ROMs using their CRC even when the name does not match the name specified by the driver.
Files with no comments are ROMs which are required by the driver.
This report does not attempt to list problems that will prevent running the the driver. It reports only on the ROMs that actually exist in your romsets. It will not list missing ROMs. If you need that information, use the ROM Audit instead, which was designed for analyzing those problems.
WARNING:
We do not condone the unauthorized or unlicensed use of ROMs. You are responsible for your own actions regarding posession and use of ROMs.
